Arrived on Friday in sunshine,+2C with 4 inches of snow on top of a layer of ice. Everyone was able to drive in !
Installed 6 batteries donated by Al Dobson. Old batteries removed as they refused to take a charge anymore.
Replaced carpet in both lofts, some leftover for the trailer, too.
Installed a new kitchen stainless steel sink.
Added new posts for the dock. Had to cut holes in the ice as there was 8 inches on the lake with an inch of snow on top.
Barry tried out his dirt bike but due to the ice under the snow ,everywhere! had several bad crashes so he put it back in the shed while he could still walk.
Rob got his Polaris started and did a few laps around the lake, as did Charlie on the ATV.
Nick and Charlie were Euchre champs on Friday night but Nick and Barry couldn't win a game Saturday!
Great fun, good food and good times by all!

Spring Flood season has started - April 27th 2018
A quick check of the Black River water levels on the government website (https://wateroffice.ec.gc.ca/report/real_time_e.html?stn=02EC002) shows that the water level went up quickly with the warm weather.
Anything over 9.2 (on the left side) indicates the road is already under water. Probably, a good 2 kilometers. Since the water level is measured at Washago a change of .1 meter measured there is equal to a foot at the Black River road.
Which looked like this in 2008.
So a measured 9.5 is like 3 feet on the road. The danger is just not from flooding out your engine but there is a good chance of your vehicle being washed off the road and into the river which is 12 feet deep and moving fast. This from hard earned experience. Two ATVs and an UTC were lost last year.
The flooding is due to snow melt more than rainfall. Yes there was a fair amount of snow still at the cabin as can be seen from Barry's pictures from April 21st.

Spring Ski Trip March 2018
Finally got back to the cabin after a long winter. Snow was getting scarce and we weren't sure there would be enough snow for x country skiing. Turned out that only Brussels and the Cabin had new snow!. 4 inches on top of a frozen hard base. Perfect for both the Yamaha and the skiers.
Doug and Charlie used the Yamaha for transportation and to haul the supplies in. Tough job but somebody has to do it.
Murray, Rob,Shawn and Bruce skied in from the car.
and others just needed to collect supplies from the car after skiing in.

Some did need a ride!
and others just needed to collect supplies from the car after skiing in.
A Saturday ski trip to Robinson Lake proved to be a challenge for most but successful.
On Saturday night we celebrated Shawn's 50th birthday in great style with a steak dinner, a cake (didn't blow up!) , gifts, take no prisoners, euchre game and a campfire.

Winter Trip Feb 16th - 18th 2018
Arrived by Yamaha .Some doubt whether there would be enough snow but found lots in Washago and the Black River road groomed by snowmobile club so a fast smooth ride all the way in!

Easy to get around with snowmobiles and the lakes are smooth with a foot of ice or more. Fired up the Polaris and went looking for some hard wood for the woodshed on the back slough.

Family Cabin Schedule for 2018.
1) The cabin and trailer are now considered separate accommodations.
This means we expect to be able to allow people to use the cabin and other people to use the trailer, at the same time. We may, also allow tenting elsewhere on the property at the same time.
2) All long weekends are open to the family for whoever wants to go.
This will allow more people to use the property in the short summer weeks.
After all, this is a family vacation property and we don't want to have to say "No" to anyone.
3) All the recreational equipment is to be shared by everyone. ie. canoes, paddles, life jackets, etc
Please ask the owner before using an ATV/UTC/motorcycle. Remember if you break it ,you will be responsible to fix it
4) As usual, all requests to use the trailer or cabin go through Doug. (the owners then decide to grant or decline the request, depending on circumstances )
Important guidelines!
- Play safe …It's a long way to a hospital. Cell phones may not work and 911 may not be able to find you here. (our 911 # is 1177 Black River Rd, East)
- Wear lifejackets when on the water … 4 people have drowned near here in the last 10 years.
- Don't wander off by yourself because there are no “Search / Rescue” efforts until first light.
- Tend your campfires carefully, especially in dry periods. There is a good chance of a forest fire.
- Take your garbage home.. feeding the bears is not recommended.
- Leave the wood box full, the next visitor will thank you.
- Don't leave mousetraps set in the summer when you leave.... It can be a stinky mess by the time someone finds it.
- Replace the campfire wood you use when possible.
- If things break , either fix /replace it or tell someone about it so we can fix it.
- Turn off the hydro at the inverter, the propane tank in the shed and lock the doors, windows and gate when you leave
Thank you,
the Bremner Boys

2017 Annual Owners Meeting
The Annual Owners meeting was attended by everyone this year. The CEO job moved to Barry for the next three years and we heard promises of bringing in the best people and "make the cabin great again" and "drain the swamp". It's going to be a long three years!
Shawn moved into the Treasury job ... no money left so he has a tough year ahead and Doug came out of the Senate to take a paying job ... secretary. Murray and Rob will try to hold Senate seats.
Lindsay joined us again this year and was a big help getting next years wood in.

The Sun Room Addition 2017
It was determined at the 2016 Owners Meeting that the trailer needed some extra floor space to be more user friendly. It was agreed that an enclosed sunroom would be a welcomed addition to the trailer.
After much planning, footing were poured,
After much planning, footing were poured,
trees were cut and sawed into appropriate beams and posts.
A patio door and 16 feet of windows with screens were sourced from friends and family and hauled up to the cabin.
Plans were thrown out and new plans drawn , then lost........then drawn again.
Finally, construction started at the end of August....with new plans.
Doors and windows have been installed as of the end of Sept. and a roof is in progress.
