Ist Cabin Trip of 2009

Arrived with Barry and Jerry about 8 PM Friday night at the Lewisham "parking lot" . We loaded up the Quads and headed in despite warnings of "no snow" and "2 ft of water" on the road from flooding.

Half way in Barry found that the river (right behind him) is only down a few inches from the road level.

It turned out that there was still 3 ft of snow but only 1 ft of water to drive through at the low culvert.
No problem for the Quads. We drove right to the Cabin with all our gear.

With all the snow, parking was at a premium.

Saturday nite hit -22C and we had to bring the beer in but we found the loft very cosy for sleeping and didn't even have to open a window.

It warmed up to -8 C on Sunday and Jerry found time for a little skiing across the lake.

and Barry and I found time to drop the old dead pine .... without hitting the Cabin!

By the time we left Sunday, freezing rain had started, just to make the drive home interesting. Never a dull trip!!!

ATV rescue in Dec 08

Barry and I finally found time to try and bring the ATVs home from the bush. We probably left it a little late, again and the early snow this year didn't help.

We asked Rob to get his old Polaris out of retirement one more time as we expected a lot of snow and would need transportation in.

Luckily, not only was the Black River road plowed but was being widened by a friend of Phil's with a snowblower .

We found the Atvs right where we had left them, in a ravine. How we got them out to the road is a whole 'nother story!!

5th Annual Owner's Meeting Nov 7th - 9th

The 5th Annual Owner's Meeting turned into an ambitous work weekend.
Murray having purchased a sizeable quantity of lumber was keen to put it to use (and get it out of his driveway!!)

After an intense 5 to 10 minutes of planning and with much help from our friends Paul and Mike, we started on a new deck and tool shed.

Cabin Trip Sept 26th - 28th

Curt Hunter and Murray Smith came up on their bikes to help cut wood for the weekend.

Here's something you don't see everyday at the Cabin. Street Bikes!!

They were a little nervous going past the beaver damn, but they made it. They were even more nervous when it rained all night and Barry filled them with stories of super slick mud holes, but they didn't have any problems.

Cabin Work Weekend June 13-15th

Surprise! No black flies!! But a fair crop of mosquitoes!

A great weekend to get some jobs done that were on the "To Do" list from the last Annual Owners meeting (I think).

We managed to install the new wood stove with a glass door and rebuild the chiminey top to bottom.

Plus install the new 30 inch stove with electronic ignition!

In our spare time we worked at raising the dock from the bottom of the lake with limited success. Probably would have finished except for eventually suffering heat stroke on Sat.

Still a very productive work weekend .

Cabin Trip April 18th - 20th

Doug, Jerry, Chris and Charlie finally made it in after 6 hours on the trail.
Water was the main issue.

Lots of water!!!

Luckily, Phil was there to give us a hand.

Weather was great! 78 F on the deck!

Hunter Lake was mostly thawed out

except for a shelf of ice along the north shore.

Barry is praying for a little less water next weekend because as you know Yamahas can't swim!

Doug, Barry & Rob found the Hunter Lake beaver dam broke and Hunter Lake down 3-4 ft. Looks like the dock got crushed, too.

Cabin Trip Sept 29th - 30th, 2007

Another successful weekend at the Cabin that turned into a work weekend.... again!!

By the time I got there with Robin and Colin, (we followed Andrea in Friday nite) Barry and Roz had finished re-planking a section of the Dock (due to unfounded concern over alleged loose boards), finished the walls of the second bedroom and hung a door.

But, luckily, I had brought up the pieces to build a proper gate so we installed it!

Design and construction courtesy of Charlie.
....

The end posts are over 4 feet into the ground!! The cement (4 bags) that Ryan & Katy provided were not used.

We did find time to lug the Yamaha motor back to Robinson Lake and take advantage of the 13ft row boat "abandoned" on shore there.
